WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT BILL'S CHAMPIONSHIP IN 1988? HOW GOOD WAS HE THEN? "He was the car to beat week-in and week-out. This is just how fast he was: Kyle Petty was driving our car, and we were going for practice at Talladega, and he hopped in behind Bill, going down pit road. And going down pit road, you're going to go out when he goes out. Kyle kind of waited on him. He couldn't keep up with him going down pit road. Couldn't keep up with him. In those days, it was just a couple of cars going out at a time - you'd want to latch on to someone and you'd draft. He was so fast that day, he drove off into the sunset going down pit road in practice. I remember that we were struggling a bit, and I went over there and asked Bill what springs and stuff they had there and if he would help me, and he gave me the complete set-up - springs, shocks, the whole deal - we went over and put it in our car. That was the day he made up the two laps under green - we finished second. That was pretty special. I'll never forget that. He didn't have to help me, but he did. He won the race, we finished second and Cale Yarborough was third in another Ford. We passed Cale in the middle of three and four of the last lap. Bill was long gone. He wasn't a factor, he was going to win the race. But, we finished second."
